Sometimes I mess up. Big time. Just ask my kids if you want to know how serious it is when I forget to refill our Berkey water filter.
They have been known to go as long as 10 minutes without a drink of water.
Despite their heartfelt concern over my occasional lapse in duty, I’m not terribly worried. In fact, this is proof that my plot to avoid being a mom who has to tell her kids to stay hydrated is working.
They have learned to listen to their bodies’ needs and– as a bonus–they are learning to plan ahead when dealing with an incompetent supplier.
If you walk into my kitchen it is likely that you will find one or two stainless steel cups near the filter– half filled with water.
Every time a kid is thirsty he or she tries to finish filling the cup. If the filter is empty I am informed as a smug small child strolls past sipping from a half-full cup.
